Welcome to the Turner-Drew Language Academy
Dear Turner-Drew Language Academy Families,
Welcome back! This is going to be another FANTASTIC school year. Our start time is 7:45am for teachers and students; dismissal is at 2:45pm for teachers and students. Students are not allowed in the building prior to 7:15am.
We certainly know that this school year will be full of new and exciting challenges, but the longer school day affords us with an opportunity to provide more instructional time in the content areas. Students in the primary department will receive an additional music class (weekly) and upper grade students will participate in coursework related to college and career readiness. Also, all students will have recess. Lastly, more time will be allocated to school-wide technology integration.
As you know, we utilize a “Triple A” approach, which emphasizes the importance of attendance, attitude and achievement. At this point, I am very happy to report, most students are in uniform, behavior is superb and our attendance rate is outstanding. We are sponsoring a PIZZA PARTY to the first classroom with 100% compliance in the following areas: lunchroom applications, emergency forms and uniform compliance. We will host our DISCIPLINE ASSEMBLY (grades 3-8) on Friday in the auditorium at 2:00pm. At this time we review the Student Code of Conduct and our school-wide (K-8) discipline policy. Please feel free to attend.
Please note we have an open-door policy. You are always welcome at Turner-Drew,
however, we encourage scheduled appointment times with the classroom teachers
because we do not want to disrupt the educational program. Our Open House is
scheduled for Thursday, September 27, 2012 @4:00pm-6:00pm. We continuously promote
students, parents and staff working together to sustain our school’s mission
and vision because we know that we cannot accomplish our goals without your support.
Parent Portal is available to access student grades and you may also communicate
with
the staff via this tool. Furthermore, I would like to thank you for your commitment,
dedication, and cooperation in improving the quality of education in our learning
community. You should be very proud, last year we posted the highest ISAT test
scores in the history of Turner-Drew with a school composite of 88%. Yes, we
did!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sabrina Jackson
Principal
