Welcome to the Turner-Drew Language Academy
Dear Turner-Drew Language Academy Families,
I am delighted to report the following; it is official, the 2013-14 is off to a great start! Students are in uniform, overall behavior is outstanding and our attendance rate is well above 95%. Ms. Shorty’s eighth grade class (Room 202) won the school- wide competition (100% compliance for uniforms, lunch forms and emergency forms. Please make sure that your child has submitted all of the documents. Our eighth graders are leading the way by providing a great example to the entire student body.
We can see an extremely positive attitude among all of our students, parents and staff. Our parent involvement during Open House was outstanding. Your commitment to our children and their education is apparent. Let’s keep up the good work. We really appreciated your support during the heat wave. Some of you donated $10.00 to assist with the purchase of portable air conditioners. Unfortunately, an upgrade in wiring is needed, so we will not be able to purchase additional units. If you would like a refund, please send a note to the main office with your request. However, if not, we will apply the $10.00 to our instructional fee fund.
Turner-Dew Language Academy is excited about increasing our access to technology. We plan to have a functional computer lab before December (contingent upon funding.) We are also pleased with our efforts to integrate our social sciences curriculum with technology and literacy.
All students enrolled in our school have full access to the World Language curriculum. We offer daily instruction in Spanish. As you know, the importance of mastering a second language increases day by day. The importance of learning a second language is not limited to acquiring communication skills in our culturally diverse society,, but studies have shown that there is a direct correlation with learning a second language and improving student achievement.
Lastly, I would like to thank you for your commitment to ensuring that your child will attain a high-quality education. We recognize parents as the first teachers. As a result, we value your support and input as we move forward in providing our children with a safe, student-centered learning environment that will challenge them to reach their full potential.
